Grass Fed Beef at Palme Acres Farms
Your Source for Natural Grass Fed Farm Raised Beef in Missouri
We are a small cattle farm operation in Mid-Missouri, providing farm raised beef to the local community and beyond. Based on the time honored traditions of hard work, sustainability, and first class customer service, our farm provides the very best in beef products to our customers.
Our focus is to raise functional and productive cattle without the use of growth hormones or artificial Supplements, ensuring that we provide our customers with safe, high quality beef they can be proud of to serve to their families. Our cattle are always treated in a humane and safe manner, making every effort to avoid causing them any undo stress.
Our beef is processed in USDA inspected facilities or Missouri Department of Agriculture inspected facilities using the same criteria as required by the USDA. Raising and finishing market ready grass fed cattle requires a higher plan of care and nutrition, this in turn requires a reduction in the herd size we manage. This allows us to better manage our herd, cattle health, improve daily weight gain while protecting our natural resources on the farm.
In today’s society many individuals and families alike are concerned with what they eat and where the food they buy comes from. We share that same concern, that is the primary reason we began raising our own beef, we wanted to know what goes in and where they come from. It allows us the advantage of knowing our meat is safe, free from harmful chemicals and was treated humanely from the first day to the last. Its important for us that you know that the beef you buy from us is the same beef that we eat ourselves.
Being informed is one of the most important steps you can take when it comes to your food. If you come to pick up your order at our farm, you will see first hand our cattle, and our horses, as they lounge in our pastures and dine on our green pastures. When summer arrives and the grass growth slows in our pastures we supplement them with hay high in protein, calcium, and phosphate. This allows us to rest our pastures and provide our cattle with a continual supply of a healthy diet. In addition we provide our cattle with free choice natural minerals.
Then there are the health reasons for eating grass fed beef. According to Dr. Rekha Mankad M.D. of the Mayo Clinic, grass fed beef may have:
- Less total fat
- More heart-healthy omega3 fatty acids
- More conjugated linoleic acid
- More antioxidant vitamins, such as Vitamin E
In a 3 decade study entitled A review of fatty acid profiles and antioxidant content in grass fed and grain fed beef conducted by the California State University, College of Agriculture and the University of California Cooperative Extension Service (C.A.Daley, K.Harrison, P. Doyle, A. Abbott, G. Nader, S. Larson), found grass-fed beef (on a g/g fat basis), has a more desirable SFA lipid profile (more C18:0 cholesterol neutral SFA and less C14:0 & C16:0 cholesterol elevating SFAs) as compared to grain-fed beef. Grass fed beef is also higher in total CLA (C18:2) isomers, TVA (C18:1t11) and n-3 FAs on a g/g fat basis. This results in a better n-g:n-3 ratio that is preferred by the nutritional community.
Grass fed beef is also higher in precursors for Vitamin A and E and cancer fighting antioxidants such as GT and SOD activity as compared to grain fed contemprories.
